We’ve seen Negan now for over 50 issues of The Walking Dead and if you come to think of it, we know nothing about him. What’s his origin and that of his deadly friend Lucille. Well we are going to be finding out what makes Negan tick and what caused him to become the man his is. But here’s the problem, we will be getting the 48 page origin story by Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard 4 pages at a time in Image’s new monthly magazine Image+. I’ve had the opportunity to read the first four months worth of the story and so far it fantastic. To finally get a window into the man we’ve been reading about for so long.
I had thought that Kirkman would possibly spin the tale in novel form like he did with the Governor. Part of me would have rather read a detailed account of how Negan was created, but at the same time it’s going to be fun to see Adlard’s art bring this story to life.
I’ll be starting a multi-part series for those who don’t have access Image+ and want to learn all about the name with the bat. I’m thinking of doing one a month and talk about what’s in each issue. However I was also thinking to wait every four issues so there’s more of a story to tell. If you have any suggestions leave a comment.
Image+ is being used as a way to spotlight some of Image’s new titles with extended previews. I’ve had the opportunity to look through the first four issues and they are pretty impressive. The 64-page magazine is distributed alongside Diamond Comics Distributors’ monthly Previews catalog featuring news, interviews, previews and original comic book content and is larger than a standard comic coming in at 11.5 x 8.7 x 0.4 inches.
